Superior Recreational Products' hip structures represent one of the most economical ways of shading open spaces. Our hip and ridge shade structures are a four posted frame featuring a canopy tensioned over a hip and ridge frame.
Coastal or Northern Customers:
For northern customers and customers in coastal areas, we recommend utilizing our optional glide elbow accessory which allows for easier installation/removal/tensioning of the canopy to give you the ability to remove your canopy should the need arise. Once a single dome becomes too large (at around 2,000 sq ft) it becomes more economical to break up the canopy into multiple canopies; supported by added columns. Additionally, for coastal areas or northern areas where canopies should be removed for snow or winds in excess of 75mph; having multiple smaller canopies are more manageable than having a single massive canopy that is too heavy to move easily.
If a requested dome foots size has a length to width ratio at or greater than 2:1 we will often break up your canopy into multiple domes. For example, a 20 x 40 rectangular hip shade would be better served by having 6 columns and two canopies (domes).
